Review of sampling experiments

Alongside my research I have been experimenting and producing samples. One of the areas I am investigating is deconstructing garments. I have chosen to deconstruct men's shirts as they are in plentiful supply in charity shops and have managed to obtain some of my husbands old one and from friends. As they are worn everyday they often show more signs of wear than womens' clothes and are often made from 100% cotton,
I have deconstructed the shirt by cutting the fabric away from the seams and I do intend to create an installation similar to that of Jean Shin. I don't really know where this will lead to but would like to do it anyway and view it as a drawing which may move my work in another direction.

Alongside this I have been experimenting with creating distressed surfaces referencing patching and piecing. I have found that the use of the embellisher is ideal for distressing fabric and giving it an aged look

Developing from my research into worn fabrics I have been experimenting with layering fabrics and cutting the top layers back to reveal the layers underneath. I have tried to create a worn fabric reminiscent of Willam Morris
